As of 11 October 2026. New VALORANT accounts need at least account level 20 to unlock Competitive mode. Ranked ready describes that access, not a specific rank or skins. Anyone considering an account purchase must also know that Riot prohibits account sales and transfers; a transfer can lead to an account ban.

What level do you need to play VALORANT ranked?

Riot's current Competitive FAQ lists account level 20 as the requirement. The previous rule of winning ten Unrated games no longer applies. Riot describes an exception for older accounts that played at least one ranked match before Episode 4: they can continue playing Competitive below level 20.

Check the account level and Competitive mode in the game itself. Account level is not your rank or Rank Rating. Unlocked access does not promise a particular placement or a win. If the mode remains unavailable despite a sufficient level, read the specific client message and check official support guidance.
